It wasn’t a crime if I went for Lady in The Water expecting the same bizarre, unpredictable twist at the end of the movie as seen in other M. Night Shyamalan’s movies. However, was it a crime if this time the twist was nowhere to be found until the end credit rolled? Has the talented director lost it?
It turned out to be a fairy tale, literally speaking. A fairy tale that your mother or grandmother normally wouldn’t tell you to whisk you away to Sleepyland. It was the ultimate twist in the movie, the kind of fairy tale that only the director could imagine. And I wonder if he told this story to put his kids to bed.
Actually, the movie was quite silly and very predictable even though it tried to fool the audience with numerous false clues. It couldn’t fool me, and I was happily curious to see what happened to the assembled myriad of characters in this fairy tale. It was silly but quite enjoyable.
So, I exited the theatre with several questions. The prominent ones were: Was I the only one who kept seeing Homer Simpson in my head whenever Paul Giamatti appeared on the screen? and Did Bryce Dallas Howard catch pneumonia while shooting the movie?
You know where to find me if you have the answers.
